Stats & Trivia
The Wolves are 12 years old as of April 2026 — the oldest American football club in Astana and one of the oldest in Central Asia. The team's first official training had just three or four participants. By February 2015, The Astana Times reported that around 50 players had passed through the club, with a core of 30 regulars sharing borrowed equipment.
The 2026 roster spans players born across five decades — from Georgy Vonchagov (#6, born 1971), a former USSR national team member aged 55, to Ivan Togobitskiy (#94, born 2009), aged 16. The heaviest player is Adil Sabit (#50, OL) at 140 kg; the tallest, at 197 cm, are Zharkynbek Alash (#67, DL) and Dmitri Novoselev (#85, TE).
Two Wolves players have served as president of FAF KZ: Eldar Makhmutov (2024) and Georgy Vonchagov (December 2024 – October 2025). The Wolves are a founding club of every official Kazakhstan competition: the first national championship (2022), the first Kazakhstan Flag Football Championship (2024), and the first Capital Cup (2025).
The Wolves' famous chant — 'Лучший клуб страны — это Волки Астаны' ('The best club in the country is the Astana Wolves') — was invented by the father of former player Ilya Popandopulo at a home match when no stadium announcer was present. The team's first-ever LAF touchdown was scored by WR Aleksey Mikhasyov (#24) on 21 May 2017 in an away match vs Ural Lightning in Yekaterinburg.
